'The Hunger Games' is set to bring a major tourism boost to North Carolina. After smashing the box office this weekend, fans of 'The Hunger Games' starring Jennifer Lawrence have already been spotted visiting the state where the film was shot.

The tourism industry in the state is expected to provide hotel packages, zip-line tours and lessons in survival skills. As the whole movie was filmed in North Carolina, they used the mountainous scenery and Henry River Mill Village as the setting for District 12. The mill did burn down back in 1977 but this only added to making the whole area have the atmosphere of a ghost town. Because the area is private, the local sheriffs are all working hard to ensure that not too many people are attracted to visiting the region. According to Associated Press, an 83-year-old property owner in the area stated: 'I'm getting too many visitors. Day and night, they're driving through, taking pictures, getting out and walking. I'm just bombarded with people.' Ironically, he further elaborated that he hasn't even read the book himself or seen the movie yet.

The film, which is based on the big-selling book, is set in a post-apocalyptic world where teenagers are forced to compete to the death in annual fighting games. 'The Hunger Games' was released in cinemas across the UK on Friday (23 Mar 2012).
