On Opening Weekend 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' breaks the November record for ticket sales in the US and Canada for highest box office earnings on its opening weekend. The sequel to 2012's 'The Hunger Games' raked in an enormous $307.7 worldwide. Suzanne Collins book trilogy is quickly becoming one of the most successful film adaptations and film franchises of all time.

Josh Hutcherson as 'Peeta Mellark' and Liam Hemsworth reprises the role of 'Gale Hawthrone', who both have very strong feelings for the skilled archer 'Katniss'.

"When the first film was released, there was this idea that it was going to appeal largely to young girls," said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for box-office tracker Rentrak. "But over time, it's skewing back toward male audiences. There's actually a lot of action, there's violence in the movie. It's crossing over to a much broader base."

'Catching Fire', which earned a domestic total of $161.1 million, had the fourth highest grossing opening weekend of all time. Marvel's 'The Avenger's holds is at No.1 with $207.4 million, followed by Iron Man: 3 with $174.1 million and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 with $169.1 million.

The sequel also broke its predecessor's total of $152.5 million in its opening weekend in March 2012. No other movie was even close to 'Catching Fire' but in a very distant 2nd place was another sequel, 'Thor: The Dark World', earning $14.2 million. In 3rd position was the sequel to 1999's 'The Best Man' as its original cast, which includes Terrance Howard and Nia Long, team up once more for the comedy 'The Best Man Holiday', earning $12.5 million.
