Taken from one of the finest albums of 2006, and probably the highlight, Real Life is the latest single from New York singer-songwriter Joan Wasser. The sparse piano and strings arrangement is a perfect backdrop to the yearning, Dusty Springfield style vocals, spinning an understated tale of love that has New York etched into every note, while still maintaining its universal appeal.

In a time when singles are more throwaway than ever, a piece of genuine class like this is jarringly refreshing. For anyone who enjoys Real Life, the album of the same name will be a definite purchase.
