The Mad Men star portrays inventor Herb Overkill in the new Despicable Me spin-off, opposite Sandra Bullock as his supervillain wife Scarlet, and he admits fans may not recognise his voice because he doesn't sound like himself.

He says, "I had had a vocal injury when I was doing the VO (voice over) for this so I had surgery right after I finished this movie, so I was a little hoarse..."

He adds, "That was three or four years ago, when I had a polyp on my vocal cords, so it was very scratchy and different, which actually worked (for the role)."
