The rapper plans to turn over a new leaf in 2014...we give it a day.
Kanye West has promised that from now on, for at least six months, he will minimise the amount of gossip column-filling rubbish he comes out with. Okay, so he may not have described it as "rubbish" but the rapper promised to hold back on the "realness," as announced to thousands of witnesses at his Toronto concert on the 23rd December.
Kanye West Has Some Well-Meaning Resolutions For 2014.
We're not sure exactly what was the tipping point was for Yeezy's zip-mouth but from a P.R point of view, the rapper is a disaster probably second only to Justin Bieber. If Kanye's not saying horrendously inappropriate things about Hitler, policemen or leather trousers, he's beating his chest and showing off his gigantic ego, as evidenced by his infamous "rock star" interview.
Either someone gave West the nudge, and told him to reign it in or West took heed of the many horrified or abusive tweets directed his way each day. As a new father-of-one, it really was about time the 'Power' rapper accepted a degree of media responsibility and noticed the legacy of embarrassing quotes he'd left for his daughter North to be forever shadowed by.
Kanye Has Said Some Pretty Silly Things This Year.
"I think it's a misconception that people think I'm angry and s**t but I'm not," West began a 27 minute-long rant, captured by amateur fan footage. "This might be the last time y'all hear me talk s**t for a long time," Yeezy continued. "Might be another like six months. At least. You're just gonna have to run back the interviews and s**t if you wanna hear some realness!"
Watch Fan Footage Of Kanye's Toronto Rant:
The performer set to work trying to right some of the wrongs of late in his speech. Referencing his recent fury directed at Nike who refused to pay him royalties because he's not an athlete, West said "I'm not going to ever bring up Nike again, and the only way I'll bring them up is in a positive light."
What extravagant gift did Kanye buy for Kim this Christmas?
The Yeezus star caused a stir recently after it was announced that his latest album had been nominated for two Grammy awards when he expected more. West didn't exactly forgive the awards in his long rant, saying "You don't run s**t! You rent the Staples Center for one night and give some goddamn awards away! F**k you." However, he maintained that "never bring up the Grammys again in a negative light" and voiced his appreciation for the 21 Grammys he already possesses.
This Should Tell You Everything You Need To Know About West's Ego.
Kanye explained that his planned low-profile was to help him focus on his creative output more: "I decided to completely focus everything in 2014 on all the new ideas and all the creative outlets," he said. As one of the most prominent celebrities in the world, not to mention the coverage his fiancée, reality TV star Kim Kardashian, receives, it's going to be hard for the 36 year-old to stay out of trouble and not let a few corrosive nuggets of fury slip when confronted by a pap or handed a mic.
Many fans and internet users have reacted online with derision regarding West's plans and our sceptical sides would similarly bet that Kanye will say something terrible before the year is out. He's probably pretty well-intentioned though: some of the stuff he comes out with is pretty funny but it's only a matter of time before he says something truly outrageous or hurtful.
