The internet erupted on Monday, 22 October, with the news that Kanye West had finally popped the question and asked Kim Kardashian to marry him. In a classic display of Kanye opulence, it has since been reported that he spared no expense with the engagement ring, spending a reported $8 million on the ring alone. We can only image what the grandeur of the wedding will be like.

Kim and Kanye look ready to tie the knot at last

On Sunday, 21 October, night, Kanye, 36, arrived at the AT&T Arena to attend Kim's 33rd birthday bash, where he got down on one knee and asked for he reality star's hand in marriage. According the the New York Daily News, the ring that Kanye proposed with was a diamond-encrusted band that is estimated to hold a $8 million value. If that amount wasn't enough, there's also the matter of the bill to rent out the AT&T field, which West is believed to have spent a small fortune on to secure the right venue for the big question.

The engagement has been a long time coming, and many were beginning to think that the pair might never tie the knot, however it looks like the big day may arrive after all. Of course, history is not on the side of Celebland's most discussed couple, owing largely to Kim's other failed marriages. West has never married before, but Kim has been married twice in the past. Her first marriage, to record producer Damon Thomas, lasted four years, whilst her marriage to NBA star Kris Humphries lasted a mere 72 days.

“Does a leopard really change its spots? I don’t think so,” William Humphries, Kris' father, told the NY Daily. “Not much changes. It’s just different actors this time around.”

Humphries senior isn't the only one who thinks the union won't last, and book making sites already have odds available for how long the marriage will last. Bookmakers Paddy Power currently have 2/1 odds on the marriage ending in less than two years. We wonder if Kanye has asked about a prenup yet.
