When Kim Kardashian and Kanye West arrived at New York's John F Kennedy airport on Tuesday (February 12, 2013), from an international flight, an airport employee ushered them past a major security checkpoint so that they could reach their connecting flight more quickly. In doing so, the employee effectively ensured that Kim and Kanye breached the security protocol put in place by the Transport Security Administration (TSA).

The celebrity couple were then requested to undergo a private security screening, when it was realised that they had not passed the appropriate checkpoints. Being escorted through the airport by staff is commonplace for celebrities. But not when it involves side-stepping security areas - whether it's accidental or not. A spokesperson for the TSA told TMZ "An airline employee escorted the two travelers through a non-public area in order to provide expedited access to their domestic flight. In doing so, the airline employee violated security protocols by permitting the travelers to by-pass the TSA security checkpoint. TSA officials learned of the violation and conducted a private screening of the two passengers in the area of the jetway."

A representative for American Airlines has since told TMZ "This was a lapse in judgment by one of our employees. We're working closely with the TSA and speaking to the individuals involved to better understand what happened." The connecting flight was eventually delayed by 50 minutes, though they insist that wasn't entirely down to the Kimye security breach.
