Lady GaGa has always been one to embrace various new and original ways to approach music, so the progression to the mobile market is no surprise. Alongside the announcement of her Artpop came the revelation of her new single, but will she be able to avoid the pitfalls that made Jay-Z and Samsung’s unification such a mess?

Lady GagaGaga's wacky sensibilities have found their way into an app

Describing the album, the press release said: “The app itself is a musical and visual engineering system that combines music, art, fashion and technology with a new interactive worldwide community 'the auras'. Altering the human experience with socal media, we bring ARTculture into POP in a reverse Warholian expedition.” Sounds very Gaga, doesn’t it?

To make this work, Gaga and her app developers would do well to pinpoint some of Jay Z’s mistakes. Hackable software meant a fake app could be released, pointing people in the wrong direction. In addition, privacy issues turned people off the idea, as did slow download speeds and a stack up in the queue back at the server due to people closing and re-opening the app in quick succession. Jay-Z’s 1 million copies sold to Samsung as part of the deal won’t count towards the Billboard charts either, but it’s unclear as to whether that will be a factor in Gaga’s app.

GagaGaga checks out the Julian Assange situation

“Exploring Gaga's existence as a cultural interface, the user will share in the 'adrenaline of fame' as they build and share their own projects, chat with one another and watch in real-time on a virtual globe as ARTPOP explodes into the physical and virtual universe at once on November 11, our 'Big Bang',” added the statement.
