A U.S. government adviser has hailed Lady GaGa as a source of strength for teenagers after she took her anti-bullying campaign to the White House on Tuesday (06Dec11).
The singer spoke to officials in Washington, D.C. about increasing safety in schools and the death of 14-year-old fan Jamey Rodemeyer, who was alleged to have committed suicide in September (11) after years of being teased about his sexuality.
Valerie Jarrett, a senior political adviser to Barack Obama, welcomed the pop star to the White House as the president was away in Kansas.
Jarrett later took to the official White House blog to heap praise on Gaga, writing, "Lady Gaga has described this cause as a personal one - she has said that as a child, she was often picked on for being different.
"I am deeply moved by the way she has used her story, and her success, to inspire young people, and shine the spotlight on important issues.
"Over the last three years, we have seen that when we work together on behalf of human rights, we can accomplish truly amazing things, yet too many young people still remain at risk."
