A representative for Lauryn Hill has dismissed reports suggesting the embattled R&B star is facing possible charges over new allegations of tax fraud, insisting the stories are false.

The former Fugees singer served three months behind bars for tax evasion last year (13) after failing to file returns with America's Internal Revenue Service from 2005 to 2007.

She managed to pay off debts amounting to more than $900,000 (£562,500) relating to that case prior to her jail stint, but rumours suggesting Hill owed another $866,868 (£541,792) to the Irs, surfaced online last week (ends21Mar14).

However, her publicist, Kathryn Frazier, has now shot down the allegations, claiming documents purportedly showing the new tax debt are old, reports Pitchfork.com.

A statement issued by Frazier reads: "Contrary to media gossip (fact checking seems to be a dying art-form) there are no changes in Ms. Hill's legal status.

"Ms. Hill has finished her sentence, has been fulfilling her agreement with the Irs, and is taking care of all outstanding matters in regards to this situation. She is not in jeopardy of any further charges. The press is reporting on paperwork that had recently been filed, and has now become public record."
