Matt Damon is in talks to join the cast of 'Elysium'.

The Oscar-winning actor and screenwriter is reportedly in early negotiations to appear in Neill Blomkamp's upcoming sci-fi drama alongside the star of 'District 9' - also directed by the South African-born writer - Sharlto Copley.

While the 'Invictus' star's role in the movie has not yet been confirmed, Matt and his management team are said to be in the first stage of discussions about whether a role in the drama would work out for him.

If he does agree to appear in 'Elysium' - which is largely surrounded in mystery at present - it will be the first time an A-list star has featured in one of Neill Blomkamp's films.

Plot details for the movie are currently being kept under wraps, but it is believed the sci-fi action will take place on a distant planet in the distant future.

With 'District 9' earning Neill a BAFTA nomination for Best Director this year, it could be that Matt's involvement in 'Elysium' gives the screenwriter an increased recognition in the movie world.
