Heavy rockers Metallica have confirmed they will be headlining Brazil's 30th annual Rock in Rio festival in September (15).

The gig will mark the band's eighth appearance at the event in Rio de Janeiro.

Metallica will join the reunited Faith No More, System of a Down, Queens of the Stone Age and Slipknot at this year's (15) festival.

Announcing the news on Wednesday (25Feb15), the band states, "We're very excited that we have been invited to be a part of the original Rock In Rio 30-year celebration by headlining one night during the festivities taking place September 18th - 27th, 2015 at the City of Rock in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

"This will mark our eighth (!) Rock In Rio appearance, including the upcoming May show in Las Vegas. It promises to be quite the party."

Metallica will also headline the first Las Vegas staging of the Rock in Rio event in May (15), alongside Linkin Park, Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars.
