OJ Simpson has been on a hunger strike in jail for at least five days after he said "I used to live my way, and now I'm going to die my way," according to sources via The Daily Mail. The 66 year-old year-old former American football star is serving a 33 year kidnapping, assault and robbery sentence in a Nevada with the possibility of parole in 2017, nine years into his sentence.

However, Simpson, who was famously acquitted of the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ronald Goldman in 1995, is reportedly feeling so depressed that he has expressed a wish to "just sit down in a corner and die." Apparently, a motivating factor for Simpson's suicide is his desire for his millions to be passed down to his four children, as he's worried they won't see it.

"He can't give the kids his money while he's alive without the Goldman family laying claim to it," the source alleged. "The only way OJ figures he can leave his kids the millions is to kill himself."

Regarding OJ's health, a mismatch of reports have surfaced, claiming that OJ had a brain tumour and was refusing treatment or alternatively was suffering from extreme diabetes due to his unhealthy lifestyle behind bars and a sky high blood pressure. However, Simpson's lawyer has indicated that both claims were untrue.

"As far as I know his health is very good, he was doing just fine," Ozzie Fumo said. "I spent a lot of time with him preparing for the retrial motion and he never once mentioned diabetes. We discussed health issues, we had meals together, and he seemed fine."

After arguing that he had not had a fair trial in 2008, Simpson lost an appeal for a retrial last year, meaning he'll stay in jail until 2017 when he's due to be eligible for parole. Simpson was found guilty of kidnapping, armed robbery and assault after what he claims was an attempt to retrieve memorabilia and personal items from two sports collectibles dealers in a casino hotel room.

Dubbed "the trial of the century," the brutal stabbing of Nicole Simpson and Ronald Goldman made waves worldwide as all eyes turned to the lengthy and complicated court procedures. Had OJ not been acquitted of their murder in 1995, he would almost certainly be serving a life sentence with years more to serve behind bars.

Five days after the pair's murder in June 1994 and after having been charged with their murders, OJ was involved in a televised car pursuit before his arrest. After his acquittal a year later, it seems like the advisable plan would have kept a low profile, particularly where the law was concerned.

Instead of purely focussing on building back his career, Simpson had numerous other scrapes with the law, including driving his boat too fast through a manatee protection zone, stealing satellite TV programming, and a simple battery and burglary arrest after he snatched the glasses from a driver he was involved in an altercation with.

Then there came the 2007 Las Vegas robbery, with its associated charges of criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, assault, robbery, and using a deadly weapon, which saw Simpson and six other men receive sentences. However long Simpson may perceive his sentence to be, he should take comfort in possible parole being just three years away, along with the chance to be with his two sons and two daughters once more.
