Veteran Rocker Paul Weller Persuaded British Cycling Hero Bradley Wiggins To Accept A Knighthood From Queen Elizabeth II When The Sportsman Was Considering Turning It Down.
The Olympic gold medallist became a 'Sir' in the Queen's 2013 New Year Honours List for his sporting achievements, but Wiggins admits he was not sure whether to accept the accolade until he had a heart-to-heart chat with his idol Weller.
Speaking on British radio show Desert Island Discs, Wiggins reveals, "He (Weller) said, 'It's different for sport'. As soon as he said that, I thought I'd better take it. I kind of had his blessing."
