Sir Paul McCartney And His Mystery Japanese Virus

It looks like Sir Paul McCartney is over the worst of it, but not without disappointing some of his dedicated fans with rescheduled shows.

The former Beatle was struck with a mystery virus while in Japan but has now left the country, leaving some fans that had paid 100,000 yen ($980) to see him with cancelled dates. He later cancelled a concert set for South Korea, too.

"Paul McCartney himself hopes to return to Japan for more concerts as soon as possible," the organizers said in a statement. A source told the Daily Mirror: "Paul has really been through the mill. He was desperately sad he had to cancel those shows but he was really poorly. But he is on the mend which is great news."

McCartney himself wrote in a statement on his website last week: "I'm so very touched. Unfortunately my condition has not improved overnight. I was really hoping that I'd be feeling better today. I'm so disappointed and sorry to be letting my fans down."

Although many fans will have been left hugely disappointed with someone of McCartney’s stature cancelling shows, especially with his and The Beatle’s popularity in Asia, his track record for live performances shows us he must really be sick. 

In a career that spans a remarkable seven decades, McCartney has played thousands of gigs across the globe. Since The Beatles, and a stint with the band ‘Wings’, his solo career has seen him continue the 60s pop sensation’s success while developing a brand of his own. At 71, he still plans to reschedule the shows then head back to Japan and South Korea and play them.
