The Beatles only surviving members, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, will join each other on stage for a live performance at the 2014 Grammy Awards.

The pair will also be honored with the 2014 Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of all four of the boys from Liverpool.

The event's organisers made the announcement on Tuesday (Jan 14th).

Also taking the stage at the prestigious music awards will be Taylor Swift, Macklemore & Ran Lewis, John Legend, Kacey Musgraves and Keith Urban.

The 71 year-old McCartney is nominated for this year's 'Best Rock Song' for the track, 'Cut Me Some Slack', in which he collaborated with Nirvana's Dave Grohl and Krist Noveselic, the only surviving members of the grunge band's original line-up.

Paul is also up for Best Music Film for 'Live Kisses', along with Jonas Åkerlund, Violaine Etienne, Aron Levine, and Scott Rodger.

The Beatles have won a total of nine Grammys throughout their storied career which all started back in 1962 when the four-piece won, the appropriate, Best New Artist award.

This year is set to be one of the biggest line-ups the award ceremony have ever showcased, earlier this month is was announced Daft Punk will be performing live for the first time since last May (2013).

Joining the techno-duo on stage will be non-other than the soul singing legend Stevie Wonder, Nil Rogers and hip-hop mogul, Pharrell Williams, who appeared on Daft Punk's last album 'Random Access Meomories'.

At the time, Ken Ehrlich, executive producer of the Grammys, said, "Details of the performance are still being worked out," continuing, "But the idea of having the exclusive television performance by this iconic band is something we're very, very excited about."

"It will be a collaborative and celebratory stage performance that honours their multi-nominated music."

The 56th annual Grammy Awards will air live on CBS at 8pm on January 26th.
