Sports star Broadus was one of the top high school wide receivers in the U.S., and in February (15), he revealed he had chosen to stay in his native Los Angeles and accept an offer to play football for the UCLA Bruins.

However, the youngster was missing from the first week of training camp this week (begs10Aug15), and now his absence has been explained.

Head coach Jim Mora reveals Broadus decided to give up his promising football career to "pursue other passions... in particular his love of film through his company Film School Productions".

Mora adds, "Cordell is an amazing young man with many talents, and we wish him nothing but the best as he continues to pursue his degree."

According to TMZ.com, Broadus still plans to take classes at UCLA, where he is a freshman.

Meanwhile, hip-hop mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs appears to have moved past his differences with the Bruins staff after he was arrested in June (15) following a fight with his son Justin Combs' strength and conditioning coach, Sal Alosi, during a UCLA practice session.

The rapper, who dodged a felony count for assault, showed the football team some love on social media this week by posting a photo of his son back at practice with the caption, "GO BRUINS!!!!!!!!!"
