The 49 year-old comedian told the longtime TV host: "I'm thrilled and honored to be taking over for you."
Stephen Colbert paid a visit to his future home on Tuesday (April 22nd) and seemed to like it very much. The 49 year-old funnyman, who has been named as David Letterman's successor, appeared on 'The Late-Show' to talk with the host about taking over once he departs.
Colbert is CBS' new 'Late-Show' host
Colbert sat down as he gazed around the studio and chatted with the 67 year-old, who recently announced he will be retiring once is current contract has expired.
"You look right at home," Letterman said to the 'Colbert Report' host as he was greeted with a huge cheer from the audience.
Almost immediately the two television stars entered into a hilarious exchange of words.
"I'm going to do whatever you have done," Colbert told Letterman, in which he quickly replied, "No, you don't want to do that."
"Really, no?" the Comedy Central star asked. "It seems to have gone pretty well, Dave."
"It's gone...on," Letterman jokingly said.

"Well, obviously I'm thrilled and honored to be taking over for you," Colbert exclaimed.
"Well, I'm thrilled as well," Letterman added. "In a situation like this-Paul and I have been doing this for a long, long time-they could have just as easily hired another boob like me. But they didn't, they hire a guy..."
"They hire a boob like me," Colbert quipped.
"No, no no no," Letterman repeated, before Colbert interrupted, "Every boob is like a snowflake, Dave. We're all unique in our own way."
