Country superstar Taylor Swift surprised young patients at a Providence, Rhode Island hospital on Monday (31Mar14) with a five-hour long visit and impromptu performance.

Just a week after the Love Story hitmaker spent time at New York City's Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, she continued her goodwill by visiting the patients at the Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

According to local news station Wjar-Tv, Swift arrived "without press releases and cameras or an entourage" and stayed for five hours.

The 24 year old individually met with the young children, posing for photos before playing her hit song Mean for the patients and their families.

Staff at the hospital showed their gratitude to Swift in a message posted on their official Facebook page, which reads: "A huge Thank You to the amazingly sweet and talented Taylor Swift who visited Hasbro Children's Hospital today!

"Taylor spent lots of time visiting with our young inpatients at the hospital today, and even played a song for the kids on our 6th floor med/psych unit. It was such a special day for a lot of our kids, and we are so thankful to Taylor and her dad for choosing to spend their time with us and put smiles on so many faces!"

The medical centre is about an hour away from Swift's oceanfront mansion in Westerly which she bought last year (13).
