The Lego Movie is officially a massive hit in the UK.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller's inspired Lego Movie is officially the No.1 movie at the UK box office for 2014, beating comedy sequel The Inbetweeners 2 and epic sci-fi film Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The animated movie - which will spawn a sequel in the near future - took an overall £34.27 million.
The Lego Movie is the top grossing movie of 2014 in the UK
The Lego Movie garnered critical acclaim for effortlessly linking audiences young and old with its story of a lowly construction worker fighting to bring down the establishment. Voice stars included Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman. The spin-off will feature Will Arnett as the Lego Batman, in 2017.

Elsewhere on the list, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 was fourth, while The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies was fifth with £28.71 million. Strangely, Transformers: Age of Extinction - the highest grossing film of 2014 globally - failed to chime with UK audiences and didn't even make the Top 10.
