Willow Smith put out a summer party song, but its racy lyrics have been raising some eyebrows.
Willow Smith might be the most successful 12-year-old in the world. The singer already has a lucrative deal with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation and a platinum record with 2010’s Whip My Hair. As much as Willow’s career is taking off however, she is still only twelve, so it’s no surprise that her latest single and video Summer Fling, raised a couple of eyebrows. Willow singing “'Don't really care what we do tonight/ Good night kisses if the mood is right laying by the beach with you wishing this will never end' has prompted lots of people to question whether the subject matter is all that appropriate for the singer’s precocious age.
Check out the Summer Fling video below.
The video also shows the singer in a much more grownup light than we’re used to seeing her. Sporting a Rihanna-esque outfit, consisting of a grey crop top, cutoff jeans and a red bandana, the tween frolicks around with “friends” – all of whom appear several years older than her. She is also seen sitting by a lake with her love interest in the video – the “summer fling” himself, who also appears to be several years her senior. As you might imagine, the release prompted a lot of confused tweets, as well as some disgruntled ones. Some have tried to examine the underlying causes for the rapid development of today’s youth, while others haven’t been all that gentle:
you're 12 what are you talking about "summer fling" http://t.co/nJd6zPe0QA @OfficialWillow
Oh well, if Willow’s parents don’t have anything against it. Plus, psychological consequences aside, the buzz is probably good for the young singer’s career. After all, if celebrities have taught us anything, it is that controversy breeds infamy.
Too young? Random people on the internet seem to think so.
