Adam Sandler is not known as one of the most subtle of comedians but he appears to have gone too far in allegedly insulting Native American actors working on his latest film. Sandler is working on an upcoming comedy film, The Ridiculous Six, which will be distributed by Netflix. The comedy is supposed to be a spoof of The Magnificent Seven.

12 Native American actors and a cultural advisor reportedly walked off the set on Wednesday (26th April) after a disagreement about the script. The actors were allegedly unhappy with the portrayal of Native Americans as the script 'repeatedly insulted native women and elders and grossly misrepresented Apache culture', according to reports on Indian Country Today. 

The insults reportedly included the misrepresentation of traditional Native American female names. The characters names of Beaver's Breath and No Bra were amongst the names the actors took issue with. Other aspects of the film were the inappropriate placement of feathers on teepees and 'an actress portraying an Apache woman squatting and urinating while smoking a peace pipe'.

The film is being produced by Happy Madison Productions and will be exclusively distributed by Netflix. Netflix has issued a statement in which they denied the film had any intention to offend. 

"The movie has ridiculous in the title for a reason: because it is ridiculous," a spokesperson for Netflix told Deadline. "It is a broad satire of Western movies and the stereotypes they popularized, featuring a diverse cast that is not only part of - but in on - the joke."
