The upcoming film will follow Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) as he attempts to document different magical creatures. The film is set in the 1920s New York and will see Scamander meet a number of different wizards and witches from the magical community, including Farrell’s character, a wizard named Graves.

The film is based on a short book, of the same name, written by J.K. Rowling in 2001. Written as a textbook by the fictitious author Scamander, the book lists a number of the magical creatures Harry and his friends encounter in the books. The book was first referenced in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone when Harry goes to Diagon Alley with a list of textbooks for school.

In addition to Redmayne and Farrell, the movie will also star Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller and Alison Sudol. Another casting announcement was made last month, as Tony Award winner Dan Fogler has been signed to play a non-magical person (a muggle) in the movie.

Rowling has written the script for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. She is producing alongside David Heyman, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram. Heyman produced all eight of the Harry Potter movies and Kloves wrote four of the films. David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter films, is returning to the franchise to direct Fantastic Beasts.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be released in cinemas in the U.K. and U.S. on 18th November 2016.

THR first reported the news.
