The band had hoped to book a series of shows in North America next year (16), but guitarist Brad Whitford has now revealed the tour plans were ditched because Tyler wanted more time to record his new solo album.

"Steven doesn't want to do it (the tour)," Whitford tells Billboard.com. "It's unfortunate. We kind of feel a little bit abandoned by him. I guess he seems to think his solo career is going to go great guns, and he doesn't seem to realise that - in my opinion - his fans around the globe want to see him in the context of Aerosmith and don't really care for whatever he thinks he's gonna do... I don't know if he gets that but, hey, that's what he wants to do. I can't put a gun to his head. It's just pretty disappointing."

Steven released his first country single, Love Is Your Name, in May (15) and his album is expected to arrive in 2016.

He has been recording the tracks in Nashville, Tennessee at the heart of the country scene, and has even filmed an appearance on hit country music TV drama Nashville.

"Country, to me, has always been oversimplified, by an accent, a truck, cowboy boots, a dirt road, a back porch, but I think it's more about freedom and pride and hard work and the girl," he recently told USA Today about his new musical direction. "And knowing everybody's first name in town, you know? There were 1,200 people in my town when I grew up. That, to me, is country."
