British singer Amy Winehouse has scrapped shows in Turkey and Greece following a shambolic tour opener in Serbia on Saturday night (18Jun11).
The Rehab hitmaker was booed by fans in Belgrade after staggering onstage late, slurring her words and then repeatedly walking off mid-song.
The local media labelled the gig a "disaster" and now Winehouse, who has long struggled with substance abuse and alcohol issues, has pulled the plug on gigs in Istanbul on Monday (20Jun11) and Athens on Wednesday (22Jun11).
The concert in Belgrade was supposed to be the start of a 12-date European tour.
In a statement from her management, the singer's handlers insist Winehouse is sorry about pulling the concerts but she "feels that this is the right thing to do".
The statement reads, "She has agreed with management that she cannot perform to the best of her ability and will return home."
