Angelina Jolie has signed a new deal to direct an adaptation of Cambodian author Loung Ung's memoir 'First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers' for Netflix.
Angelina Jolie has signed a deal to direct, produce and co-write a new movie for Netflix.
The 40-year-old actress and director will adapt Cambodian author Loung Ung's memoir 'First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers' for the streaming service.
Angelina told PEOPLE in a statement: ''I was deeply affected by Loung's book.
''It deepened forever my understanding of how children experience war and are affected by the emotional memory of it. And it helped me draw closer still to the people of Cambodia, my son's homeland.
''It is a dream come true to be able to adapt this book for the screen, and I'm honoured to work alongside Loung and filmmaker Rithy Panh.''
Angelina's son Maddox, 13, was born in Cambodia and he is believed to be involved in the movie's production.
Her directorial debut, 'In the Land of Blood and Honey,' was released in two languages and the new project will be shot in both Khmer and English.
Just last month Angelina's husband Brad Pitt signed a deal with Netflix to produce and star in online comedy 'War Machine'.
The deal means Netflix has agreed to fund and distribute the film and is the combined efforts of his Plan B production house and the service.
The movie is set to start shooting in August, and 'Animal Kingdom' helmer David Michôd will take on directing duties.
Netflix have confirmed 'War Machine' will be eligible for Oscar and Emmy nominations, despite not having a conventional release.
