The sequel, which stars Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson and marks Elizabeth Banks' directorial debut, grossed $70.3 million (GBP43.9 million), taking in more than the original film's entire domestic earnings, which totalled $65 million (GBP40.625 million).

Mad Max: Fury Road, starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, comes in at number two with $44.4 million (GBP27.750 million).

Avengers: Age of Ultron, Hot Pursuit and Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 round out the new top five.
