Ant and Dec’s chart dream has come to an end after just one week on top of the UK Singles charts after they were knocked from their perch by the club hit ‘Need U (100%).’

The successful TV hosts were surprised to find themselves in the running for the top spot just over a week ago after they performed their 1994 hit ‘Ready To Rhumble’ – made when they were still best known for playing fresh-faced youngsters PJ and Duncan in children’s soap Byker Grove – on Saturday Night Takeaway on ITV. Sparking the public’s imagination it rocketed to the top of first the iTunes charts and then the official Top 40 on March 31st. However, after ‘Need U (100%)’ by A*M*E ousted them, they sit at sixth place in last weekend’s charts.

However, while their pop career might have snuffed out once again, their TV career continues to soar and they were once again on the top spot for Saturday night’s TV ratings in the UK, with Saturday Night Takeaway defeating the second in the series of reality singing contest The Voice on BBC. The Voice did record the highest peak audience for a show on the evening – 8.8 million – but that came after Takeaway had finished and when it came to average figures it was trumped by 7.3 million to 6.4 million. The real problems for The Voice lie ahead; last year the ratings dropped hugely once the ‘blind’ rounds were done with, it’ll be tough to ensure the same doesn’t happen again. Maybe they should give Kavana another go.
