Antonio De La Rua and Shakira have called time on their 11-year relationship.

The political advisor and the Columbian-born singer - who have been dating since 2000 and were rumoured to be engaged - parted ways last August, but maintain they spent the "most wonderful years" of their lives together.

In a joint statement on Shakira's website, the former couple said: "During our almost 11 years together we have loved each other deeply, taken care of each other and stood by one another.

"They have been the most wonderful years of our lives, and thanks to that love and the respect that we share for one another we have been an exceptional couple and partners."

However, the pair are still planning on working alongside one another in the future, as they believe they have an "indestructible" Friendship.

The statement continued: "We move forward as partners, developing projects together, working hand in hand and in close communication. Our friendship and understanding of one another is unwavering and indestructible."
