Basshunter (born Jonas Erik Altberg, 22.12.1984)
Basshunter is a Swedish singer-songwriter and producer. His own description of his music is 'Eurodance'.
Childhood & Early Music Career: Basshunter was born and raised in Halmstead, Sweden, where he lived with his mother, father and younger brother.
He started using the name Basshunter when he began using the Fruity Loops computer software in 2002. His debut album was entitled The Old Shit and was released through his own website in 2002. Two years later, he released The Bassmachine via the same method.
2006 onwards: In 2006, Basshunter signed a deal with Warner Music and released his debut single, 'Boten Anna'. The track became an instant hit in Scandinavia and became the first Swedish - language track to hit the number one spot in the Dutch charts. His debut album with Warner Music was entitled LOL <(^^,)> and was re-released in December of that year, with Basshunter's own version of the traditional 'Jingle Bells'. The track 'Sverige' was excluded from the international releases of the album.
He then released a recording named 'Now You're Gone', with English lyrics; a deliberate attempt to appeal to an English-speaking audience. 'Now You're Gone' reached number one in the UK and remained at the top of the charts for four weeks.
Basshunter then spent 2007 writing and recording a new album. That album was then released in July 2008, entitled Now You're Gone: The Album. The album spawned five singles, 'Now You're Gone, All I Ever Wanted', 'Angel in the Night', 'I Miss You' and 'Walk on Water'. An updated, deluxe version of the album was then released in April 2009, featuring remixes by Headhunter and 7th Heaven, as well as a megamix of his debut four singles. After 10 weeks the album was awarded platinum status.
Basshunter's fifth studio album, Bass Generation, was released in September 2009. The lead single was entitled 'Every Morning'.
On 30th November 2009, Basshunter released a new single, entitled 'I Promised Myself'.
Personal Life: In January 2010, Basshunter became one of the contestants in the UK version of Celebrity Big Brother. The other contestants in the house included Lady Sovereign, Vinnie Jones, Ivana Trump and Sisqo. This TV appearance followed an appearance on the music quiz show Never Mind the Buzzcocks. The episode that he was on featured David Walliams as the guest presenter, as well as Noel Fielding and Phil Jupitus as regular team captains.
Basshunter has been formally diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome.
