The Telegraph reports that the ceremony took place at the 12th century St Peter & St Paul Church, near Brighstone, where fans waited outside to catch a glimpse of the happy couple.

“Miss Hunter arrived at 3.20pm and was ushered into the church surrounded by security holding umbrellas, with her brown hair neatly tied up underneath her white veil,” the newspaper reports.

“Then, 40 minutes later, three loud cheers erupted from the church as the ceremony drew to a close, and at 4.15pm the couple left in a classic Jaguar.”

Guests at the ceremony were reported have included fellow British actor Tom Hiddleston, with the reception taking place at the Mottistone Manor, across the road from the church.

The couple’s engagement was announced last November in a traditional fashion, via The Times’ newspaper’s births, deaths and marriages page. “Mr B.T. Cumberbatch and Miss S.I. Hunter: The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katharine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London,” the announcement read.

Last month the couple confirmed they are expecting their first child together, due some time in the summer. The pair are now expected to go on their honeymoon. However their fun may be cut short as Benedict is due back for the Oscars on the 22nd, where he is nominated in the best actor category.
