The 'Sherlock' actor gave his best thespian performance of R Kelly's saucy track.
Benedict Cumberbatch has made women go weak at the knees yet again after appearing in a surprise skit on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Host Kimmel could barely contain his glee as he announced "Here, now with a reading of the actual lyrics from R Kelly's song 'Genius' from the forthcoming album Black Panties. I give you Emmy, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominee, Benedict Cumberbatch."
Benedict Cumberbatch Surprised Jimmy Kimmel's Audience With A Rap Reading.
To a roomful of wild screams, Cumberbatch was revealed from behind a curtain sitting on a stool wearing a suit. The room fell silent as he began his recital: "Bodies, so freaking soft. I can't wait to turn you on," he read to delighted whooping from the women in the audience.
"You got me like, la la la la la. Baby," he continued, with theatrical intonation. The rap track was rendered almost Shakepearean with Cumberbatch's dramatic prowess, well-spoken English accent and baritone voice.
Watch Benedict Cumberbatch's Reading OF R Kelly's 'Genius':
The track is lifted from R Kelly's soon-to-be-released album, provocatively titled Black Panties. 'Genius' wasn't even the most sexually suggestive song the Jimmy Kimmel Live team could have picked, with tracks such as 'Show Ya Pussy' and 'Marry The Pussy' just waiting in line to be given a thespian transformation by the dashing Sherlock star.
It's a testament to Cumberbatch's acting skill that he managed to maintain his deadpan performance with only the slightest hint of a smirk instead of dissolving into laughter as the audience and Kimmel were. "I can feel your body flowers," he read, adding "While I'm kissing on your thighs [...] anticipation so crazy."
Was Benedict's Performance Seductive Or A Bit Creepy? We'll Leave You To Decide.
The rapper himself has not yet commented on Cumberbatch's impressive performance but could definitely use a lesson in the subtler ways of seduction from the affable English star. The final glorious punch comes when Benedict delivers the final lines, "Go to sleep and when we wake up imma hit that thing again," before turning to a side camera, winking and adding "Promise."
