2013 is the year of Bruno Mars, according to Billboard magazine.

The 28 year-old beat the likes of Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake and Rihanna to be crowned the 'Artist of the Year'.

Mars has dominated the charts this past 12 months due to the 2012 release of 'Unorthodox Jukebox' which stayed in the Billboard 200 chart for almost a year.

It has sold 1.8 million albums and produced three top ten singles.

In a Q&A with Billboard Mars revealed he loved making his latest album, "I love to create music. That's all I was trying to do with that album, was to enjoy what I do. And that's going into the studio and writing whatever I feel. And I'm just happy that there's some people out there that like it."

Billboard also cites his success in the singles charts as a major element of his crowning. 'When I Was Your Man' was No.1 for a week, 'Treasure' debuted at No.5 and his biggest hit 'Locked Out Of Heaven' spent six weeks in 2st position on the Hot 100 list.

The 'Moonshine Jungle' world tour, which will resume in February next year for concerts in Australia and New Zealand, has already logged 40 sold-out dates in North America.

"There's been so many awesome moments this year," Mars said. "The highlight was going on tour and doing the Moonshine Jungle tour with my boys, with my band. And to able to see the world playing these songs."

But no matter how busy and full Bruno's schedule seems, the 'Grenade' singer also admitted that he "can't wait to get back in the studio."
