Julio Villamariona, 52, died after he was hit by a production van carrying cast and crew members on the set in Santa Clarita, California. The driver, Ralph Blunt, had passed out behind the wheel and Cbs bosses later admitted he suffered from a medical condition they were not aware of.
Villamariona's family sued Cbs and Blunt in 2012, and on Tuesday (30Sep14), the Los Angeles Superior Court ordered the company to pay out $10.4 million ($6.5 million) to the guard's widow and three children.
Their lawyer Brian Panish tells Thewrap.com, "The size of the verdict is a testament to what a great father and husband Julio Villamariona was... I am amazed Cbs would fight this case all the way through trial when they admitted their employee killed an innocent person."
