Troubled rapper Charles Hamilton has been ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation to determine whether he is fit to stand trial for felony assault.
The rising hip-hop star was arrested last month (Dec10) after allegedly striking a police officer who had been investigating reports of a number of bar disturbances, said to involve Hamilton, in Cleveland, Ohio.
He was released on bail and returned to Cayuga County Court on Tuesday (04Jan11), when a judge sent him for a mental assessment, according to XXLMag.com.
The results of the test, expected within a few weeks, will help the judge decide whether he is mentally stable to face trial.
Hamilton has a history of psychiatric concerns - he checked himself into a mental institution in New York in July (10) in a bid to deal with the stress of working in the music industry. He underwent a week's worth of treatment before being released.
