Chris Brown says he is quitting music after two more albums after becoming tired of “being famous for a mistake.” Brown’s reputation took a severe dent when he assaulted his then girlfriend Rihanna and says he will release only one more LP after his forthcoming effort, titled X.

“Don't worry mainstream America. After this X album, it'll probably be my last album,” Brown said in a tweet on Tuesday before deleting it, “Being famous is amazing when it's for ur music and talent. I'm tired of being famous for a mistake I made when I was 18. I'm cool & over it!”

Brown was actually 19 when he beat up Rihanna on the eve of the Grammy Awards. He pleaded guilty to the charges and received five years’ probation though it’s plagued him ever since, with discrepancies over the amount of community service he completed and concerns over his role in a brawl with Drake in a New York nightclub.

His retirement announcement came one day after Brown spent less than one hour behind bars after turning himself into Los Angeles’ Van Buys jail as part of his on-going hit-and-run charge. He was booked and released at 3.22pm, tweeting, “Home don't feel like home. Too many vacant rooms,” later that evening.

Brown, now 24, has consistently denied wrongdoing for the crash on May 21 this year. He is accused of driving without a proper permit and leaving the scene without giving the victim his insurance details.

Brown’s sixth studio album, X, is due out on August 20, 2013.
