Circa Waves frontman Kieran Shudall and bassist Sam Rourke open up about their rise to success since they first set out to record together back in 2013. Now fresh off the back of their debut album release 'Young Chasers', they have a lot of special moments to be thankful for.

While it has previously been revealed that three of the four-piece (plus past member Sian Plummer), Shudall, Rourke and guitarist Joe Falconer, met each other at Liverpool Sound City festival, Shudall admits that he actually met Rourke under much less predictable circumstances; an event that the former describes as 'quite special'.

'It was at a football game', he says. 'Sam was doing his moves, I was doing my moves and we were both equally impressed by each other and thought it would be a fantastic manoeuvre to start a band together.' As you do. And so Circa Waves began, touring the UK and releasing the AA side single 'Get Away'/ 'Good For Me' through Transgressive Records, but it wasn't until early next year that they started to understand that something seriously amazing was happening.

'The first time I thought it was going to be good was when Zane Lowe played ['Stuck In My Teeth']', says Shudall. 'When we actually got into a practise room and got it all ready in the first few months, it was quite obvious there was something special there.' Ironic, really, given that the song is actually about the struggle to become successful as a new band.

Indeed they had something special because soon after, they opened the NME Awards Tour alongside the likes of Royal Blood and Temples; an experience that Rourke describes as 'intimidating' and 'intense'.

'Young Chasers', named in recognition of the EP that brought them to mainstream attention, was released in March, but it isn't the latest addition to the franchise. 'Colin [Jones - drummer] joined us a couple of months ago so he's on like a probationary period right now and he's on best behaviour', Rourke explains. 

Circa Waves are touring throughout Europe this year, hitting Lollapalooza, Leeds/Reading Festival and T In The Park.
