The Weeknd (Formed 2010)
The Weeknd is a Canadian singer/songwriter, known by his stage name 'The Weeknd'.
He is best known for his single, "Love Me Harder".
Formation: The Weeknd was born in Scarborough, Ontario, on February 16th 1990.
His father was absent during his life, and his mother was constantly working, so his grandmother brought him up.
Because of this, he learnt fluent Amharic, which was his first language.
He took the name 'The Weeknd' after he dropped out of school aged 17.
Music Career: The Weeknd uploaded numerous songs to his YouTube channel in late 2010, under the name 'The Weeknd'.
He released three 9-track mixtapes throughout 2011, including 'House Of Balloons', 'Thursday', and 'Echoes Of Silence', which were all critically acclaimed.
He released "House Of Balloons" on his website for free download on March 21st 2011.
He went on tour in July.
His second mixtape, 'Thursday', was released on August 18th 2011, and was also free from his website.
In 2012, he signed with Republic Records as well as creating a joint venture with his own label, 'Imprint Label'.
He released a compilation album in 2012, called 'Trilogy', which was released under his own label and Republic Records.
He began his US tour as well as performing at Coachella Festival.
He released his debut studio album in 2013, 'Kiss Land', which included the songs "Kiss Land" and "Live For".
In May 2013, 'Trilogy' was certified Platinum by the RIAA.
In June 2014, he announced he would be headlining the 'King Of The Fall' tour, and ScHoolboy Q and Jhene Aiko would be supporting.
He released his track 'King Of The Fall' on July 20th in order to support his upcoming tour.
"Love Me Harder" was released on September 30th 2014, featuring Ariana Grande.
It peaked at number 7 on the Billboard hot 100 Chart.
"Earned It" was released in December 2014 for the 2015 film 'Fifty Shades Of Grey'.
