David Bowie has created a new track for the opening credits of Sky Atlantic’s upcoming series, ‘The Last Panthers’.
David Bowie has turned his considerable talents to create a new track, entitled ‘Blackstar’, especially for the opening credits of The Last Panthers. The moody new track plays over dark opening credits which include snapshots of medieval and animal imagery as well as broken glass, smoking guns and falling bodies.

The haunting track gives a preview of the tone of the upcoming series, due to air on Sky Atlantic on November 12th, and it promises to be dark and violent. The British crime series stars Samantha Morton, John Hurt, Tahar Ramin and Goran Bogdan.
The series has been written by Jack Thorne, the writer best known for This is England and its sequel series, Skins and The Fades. The series is directed by Johan Reneck.

From what we can glean from the trailer, the series will initially focus on a diamond robbery by a Pink Panther style gang. Morton plays as the diamond expert, working under the supervision of Hurt, in charge of the investigation.
This is not the first time Bowie has created music for a television series or film. In addition to the many Bowie tracks which have featured in a variety of different films and series, Bowie has previously worked on soundtracks for three films: Christiane F. (1981), Labyrinth (1986) and The Buddha of Suburbia (1993). The latter was a BBC adaptation of Hanif Kureishi’s novel of the same name but it’s still been more than twenty years since Bowie last contributed to a television series.
