Dennis Franz is set to start the final season of hit cop drama NYPD Blue with a drastic new look - he's shed his portly image.

The actor, who plays DETECTIVE ANDY SIPOWICZ on the show, joined his wife on a weightloss programme prior to a holiday to Bora Bora and he was amazed with the results.

He says, "My wife started the South Beach Diet... and I said, 'I'll do it with you,' and it started working for me."

But Franz has no idea how much weight he's lost: "I never weigh myself."
