In an online interview with Billy Joel, staged on Sunday (20Sep15) in New York, the rocker revealed his greatest regret was the lead vocal he laid down on the song.

Henley said, "We recorded that in London with the London Symphony Orchestra in a cavernous studio. I was terrified. The musicians in the orchestra were bored s**tless.

"They had brought chessboards with them. Each pair of players would set up a chessboard between them, and when we weren't doing any takes, they would play.

"Once in a while I would hear a remark from the back: 'You know, I don't feel like a desperado'."
