The cast and crew of the forthcoming Brian Wilson biopic 'Love and Mercy' discuss their experiences of depicting the life of one of the greatest musicians of all time, from his beginnings with the Beach Boys, to the complex emotional troubles of his later life. Among the stars are John Cusack, Paul Dano, Paul Giamatti, Brett Davern, Kenny Wormald and Jake Abel.
Co-writer Oren Moverman explains the concept of two actors playing two different Brian Wilsons. 'There's an interpretation of two eras in his life', he says. 'The super creative era of the 60s and the psychologically complicated era of the 80s. Brian in the 80s was not Brian in the 60s.' Throughout the trauma though, his genius always shone through. 'He was doing things that were so other-worldly and shaped culture in such incredible ways', says Cusack, with director Bill Pohlad adding, 'His genius is that he hears these complex harmonies that no-one else can really hear.'
