Sometimes, the greatest conflicts and clash with smaller and internal conflicts in a major way. Bobby Fischer (Tobey Maguire) is the greatest chess player in the United States, and he is desperate to seek out the greatest players in the world. The problem is, they happen to be Russian, and with the Cold War at its height, the American government steps in to inform him that his game will be used as propaganda. This sends him down a path of introspection, as the pressure of a simple chess match holds the weight of the Cold War upon his shoulders.
Director Edward Zwick ('Love & Other Drugs', 'Defiance') screenwriter Steven Knight ('Locke', 'Peaky Blinders') have teamed up the 'Pawn Sacrifice' - a biopic of Robert James "Bobby" Fischer, who went on to be considered as the 'greatest chess player of all time'. Filming began in October 2013 Reykjavík, Iceland, before filming in Montreal, Canada, for a further 40 days. On 11th December 2013, the film finally wrapped in Los Angeles. Having appeared at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2014, 'Pawn Sacrifice' is set for a limited release in the US on 18 September 2015.
