Experiments in Living
Album Review
Leeds home boys Four Day Hombre release debut album Experiments in Living on 6th March. Opening single the first word is the hardest, lulls the listener into a false sense of security that this album is going to sound like coldplay, after all the singer simon wainwright sounds eerily like chris martin. If Chris Martin were to do a solo album it would sound like this, except not as good. The bands influences include: Elbow, Neil Young, Keane and David Bowie to name but a few, and I think this is evident, more so in the elbow and keane sound. This is melodic and delicate, not overpowering in your face, but still powerful enough to make an impact and make you sit up and take notice. Best songs on the album include; three years, flame, 13th of the month and the first word is the hardest. Other tracks include; Mr. M, 1000 bulbs and inertia. This is actually an impressive debut album. In my opinion the lads have not jumped the gun, and have not attempted anything out of their league and that's what makes this for good listening, also it helps that I am a huge bowie and young fan, and as much as I hate coldplay, if they came out with an album like this I would probably like them. 2006 may just be the year for four day hombre because they may just actually give Apple's daddy and his band a run for their money. A sound investment, go and buy this!
