Its My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry
Single Review
(Sane Man)
For a band that can basically go through their entire repertoire and pick out any one of them as a potential 45, Glasvegas certainly know how to make said choices even more appropriate with the time of year too.
So, with Christmas looming, we had the yuletide heartstrings tugged by the near-flawless 'Daddy's Gone', and with Cupid firing his arrows in the name of St Valentine, their anthem to infidelity and jealousy 'Its My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry' finds itself racked up as the gift your beloved won't find among the shelves at Clintons.
Having pretty much developed a sound all of their own; some going bearing in mind the ink on their first recording contract is barely dry yet, Glasvegas are fast creating a niche that combines all the elements of a perfect pop song before wrapping them in a barbed wire coated shroud of noise just on the left-hand side of radio-friendliness.
Part shoegaze, part surf-pop, part rock'n'roll; Glasvegas represent a collage of all the best bits of six decades worth of rock and roll culture, and to be quite honest, we wouldn't have it any other way. Timeless.
9/10
