Autopsy Results Reveal GWAR Frontman Dave Brockie Died Of Heroin Overdose

Dave Brockie, who was the founder and lead vocalist of the metal band GWAR, tragically passed away this past March at the age of 50 years-old.

Reuters reports, the Canadian musician's autopsy report finally reveals that the cause of death was from an accidental heroin overdose, the Virginia State Medical Examiner's Office stated on Tuesday (June 3rd).

Brockie, who used the alter ego 'Oderus Urungus' while performing, was found dead by his roommate in their Richmond, Virginia home on March 23rd.

Arkuie Williams, administrator of the medical examiner's office, stated that the singer passed away from "acute heroin toxicity and the manner of death is accident."

At the time of the tragedy a statement was released which read, "When officers arrived, they found David M. Brockie, 50, deceased inside the home." No foul play was ever suspected, and the case can now be closed after the results of the autopsy.

Brockie founded the metal band in 1984 with his fellow art students at the Virginia Commonwealth University, and were known for their onstage antic which included entertaining their fans with scenes of blood, gore and graphic violence.

GWAR are most recognizable for their onstage attire, which consists of science-fiction and horror inspired costumes, portraying them as barbaric interplanetary warriors.

As well as Brockie being known to fans as 'Oderus Urungus, the rest of the band members also had grotesque sounding nicknames, such as Balsac the Jaws of Death, Jizmak Da Gusha and Beefcake the Mighty.

The lead singer's death comes only three years after the passing of former GWAR guitarist Cory Smoot, a.k.a. Flattus Maximus, who died of a heart attack while the band were touring in North Dakota, in November 2011.
