The Five Year Engagement
Tom and Violet met at a New Year's Eve Party and were instantly attracted to each other. After only a year together, Tom proposed to Violet on a balcony as fireworks went off around them. Violet accepted and the pair threw themselves into wedding plans.
Then Violet gets a letter from the University of Michigan confirming a job position there for two years. The couple move to Michigan and Tom agrees to delay wedding plans for the two years. When the two years are up, however, Violet's boss extends her contract for a further two years, causing the loved up pair to push back their wedding again. Meanwhile, the parents of the couple are getting restless. Both have grandparents who want to see their grandchildren married before they die.
Their extended engagement starts to take its toll on the couple, who are fighting more often than they used to do. Can they overcome the obstacles in their path and get married, or will their relationship break down?
The Five Year Engagement is produced by Judd Apatow, who is known for the successful films Knocked Up; The Forty Year Old Virgin and Pineapple Express. He also founded Apatow Productions, which developed the cult TV show Freaks and Geeks.
