For some, Jim Carrey’s new stance on Kick Ass 2 – that he can’t condone the violence so prevailent in the film – is a welcome addition to the fight for gun regulation in the U.S. For others, it’s hypocritical, and for some, it couldn’t be more irrelevant.

For all three though, Carrey’s reluctance and refusal to support his new film means he should forfeit his fee for the film and donate it to charity – possibly the cause against guns in America, or giving it to the vicitms and families of Sandy Hook – the massacre that inspired his anti-violence position.

The Dumb and Dumber star revealed his thoughts on the film on Twitter. He wrote: "I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence. My apologies to e (sic)," adding: "I meant to say my apologies to others involve with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart."

This, of course, led a slew of fans to demand that Carrey give up his fee for the movie. It is unknown what he plans to do with the cash, but we’re guessing the wise thing to do would be donate it.

Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar said the actor’s confession was “surprising” in a post on his blog. He wrote, “I respect both his politics and his opinion, but I'm baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn’t in the screenplay eighteen months ago... Like Jim, I'm horrified by real-life violence (even though I'm Scottish), but Kick-Ass 2 isn't a documentary. No actors were harmed in the making of this production!”
