A biopic of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has flopped at the U.K. box office, taking a pitiful $753,000 (£502,000) in its opening weekend (11-13Oct13) and failing to even dent the top five.

The Fifth Estate charts the story of the controversial whistleblowing website, but Assange has branded it "inaccurate" and predicted it would fail to impress viewers - and he has been proved right.

The movie has been left languishing in a lowly sixth position, behind five movies which have been showing for weeks.

Thriller film Prisoners, starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, remains in the top spot after taking $1.4 million (£968,990) in ticket sales, ahead of musical movie Sunshine On Leith, which settles in second place after making $1 million (£732,296) in its second weekend.

Woody Allen's comedy Blue Jasmine recaptures third place, with $963,361 (£642,241), while James MCAvoy's British crime drama Filth slips from second to fourth, with $958,284 (£638,856).

Motor racing movie Rush manages to stay in the top five for a fifth week running after taking $797,917 (£531,945) in ticket sales.
