You’re Speaking My Language

Pleasantly, brilliantly and fantastically surprised I am truly convinced by this cross over from screen idol to rock goddess.

Launching the album with its title track, you are met with a disarming quality rock track, supported with Lewis on vocals, who does a damn fine job… just makes you think why didn’t she do it sooner?

The Licks are a sharp, tight band and by no means carry Lewis on her rock star whim. This band has worked hard at its musicality and you really can hear it.

‘Money in my pocket’ is a notable pop/rock track that will have you running for the repeat button. It really illustrates Lewis’ sexy, husky vocal and its true strength and ability.

‘I never got to tell you what I wanted to’ – what a superbly haunting track with a truly tumultuous dynamic to it, somewhat reminiscent of Hole’s ‘Celebrity Skin’ Lewis really goes for it, as well as the rest of the band and rocks it out ‘til the cows come home.

Juliette & the Licks have produced a sound not too far from Hole in general but with a softer more eerie sound the would be more comparable to The White Stripes, perhaps.

‘You’re Speaking My Language’ has it softer and more thoughtful tracks including ‘This I know’ which is brilliantly led by Lewis’ dramatic and often sweet vocal.

On the whole this is a winner, there really isn’t a bad track on here and Lewis has completed her mission successfully… more than can be said for Stefan Dennis….

8/10
